The World’s Longest Taco – 1973
By Kevin Hunt
When I was a young adult, we held a unique activity in the
Tri-Stake Center (maybe it was then known as the Inter-Stake
Center). This event was held in June of 1973. It was our
plan to construct the world’s largest “taco”. The
stipulation was that the taco shells and the meat had to run
continuous (touching). We set up 1,500 feet of table in the
center (that is equivalent to 5 football fields laid end to
end) and then proceeded to construct our giant taco. It was
amazing how fast the taco got built by the 200 or so young
adults. And after it was constructed, we all got to eat the
tacos. We certainly had all of the tacos that we wanted to
eat that night. We all ate five or more, it seems – and
even the guests who heard of the event got their fill.
